The opportunity

Are you looking for a fresh challenge and the opportunity to develop and grow professionally? Are you inspired by the challenge of providing high quality care, and are ready to move into a more advanced leadership role?

Due to an internal promotion we are now seeking applications from experienced midwives to step up as our next Charge Midwife Manager. We need a genuine passionate leader who ensures the service is responsive to the changing needs of our community and health system, and will champion Southern DHB's 'right care, right time, in the right place' model. We are committed to our maternity unit providing the best care for women, their babies and whanau at this important time in their lives.

About you

You should have strong leadership skills and credibility within the Midwifery profession and be able to demonstrate ability to lead from the front with diverse groups of people or complex cases. You are a resilient, calm, yet empathetic, decision maker who leads by example and role models and inspires positive change. You bring people together to deliver the best outcomes for the women and babies in our care.

Ideal applicants should:

  • possess the ability to think outside the square, communicate effectively and promote best practice and standards of midwifery care
  • demonstrate sound professional judgement
  • have relevant knowledge of patient safety and resource management, including budgeting, equipment and staff management
  • demonstrate clinical quality, safety and best practice.

It goes without saying that you will be a Senior Registered Midwife, with extensive midwifery experience. You will have a current NZ APC, relevant post graduate qualifications and a sound understanding of the New Zealand Midwifery model of care.

About us

We operate an 18-bed integrated unit handling approximately 1,200 births a year as part of a full range of primary and secondary maternity services. As the only secondary birthing unit in Southland, we offer inpatient and outpatient antenatal, delivery and postnatal services and a Lactation Consultancy Service.

We are based in Invercargill; however, most of our patients live in the wider Southland catchment, which adds a strong rural and community feel to our work.

About our district

Now is a great time to relocate to Southern if you were considering a move! The Southern district offers the benefits of excellent amenities, first class primary through to tertiary education, and outstanding recreational opportunities. Whether it is surfing, kayaking or sailing; skiing, hunting or fishing; theatre, live-music or art - there's literally something for everyone. Check out for what the region and we can offer you and your whanau.

We provide assistance to successful candidates joining us from outside the region to help with their relocation expenses.

Closing date: Thursday, 9 July 2020.

Please note we may begin shortlisting as we receive applications and if necessary withdraw the advertising at any time.
