Social Worker

Purpose of Position

The Sustaining NSW families (SNF) team is responsible for providing antenatal and postnatal support and intervention for 2 years to targeted families living in the Wyong LGA as per the Supporting Families Early Maternal and Child Health Home Visiting Policy (NSW Health 2008). These families will be identified in the antenatal period and intervention can continue until the child reached 2 years of age. The team comprises of a Clinical Coordinator who will act as a team leader, Child and Family Health Nurses, allied health professionals and a Social Worker. The senior clinician Social Work position will provide a specialist social work services to the SNF team. Intervention will occur primarily with obstetrics, Child and Family Health nurses and other team members in the form of casework, group work and community education / activities with other government and non-government organisations. As new program the Social Worker needs to show initiative and skills in planning, implementing, evaluating and reporting on services.

Selection Criteria

Degree in Social Work from an accredited course and eligible for membership of Australian Association of Social Work and a valid Australian Driver's Licence.

Demonstrated advanced level clinical skills in complex psychosocial assessments and counselling, including experience in working with vulnerable and complex families, including individual, couple & family counselling.

Demonstrated capacity to provide clinical consultation and to facilitate case review, in the context of family oriented casework in a community based multidisciplinary setting.

Extensive specialist knowledge of children and families relating for example to: child protection (including preventative child protection), substance misuse, mental illness and / or domestic violence.

Demonstrated skills in planning, implementing, evaluating and reporting on services.

Demonstrated skills in clinical practice, including a commitment to maintaining improvement and updating professional skill and knowledge base.

Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a health related multidisciplinary team and to establish & maintain functional networks with a variety of government & NGO workers.
